Luiz Velho

Senior PQ Researcher at CNPq, Full Professor at IMPA and Lead Scientist at VISGRAF Laboratory. His academic background includes: Systems Analysis from PUC-Rio, BE in Industrial Design from ESDI – UERJ, MS in Computer Graphics from MIT / Media Lab, and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto. He made the first computer-animated film in Latin America. He was a visiting artist at the National Film Board of Canada, a systems developer at Fantastic Animation Machine in New York, a principal engineer at Rede Globo, and a visiting professor at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at NYU. He was also a visiting researcher at HP Laboratories and Microsoft Research China.

Married to Noni Geiger, father of Alice and grandfather of Levi, Yisroel, Rivkah, Mendel and Shalom.
